Freestyle wrestling in the international arena began to be cultivated later Greco-Roman. FIGHT IN ANCIENTITY
The most ancient of the currently known images of wrestlers date back to 6–4 millennium BC. e. – to the culture of the South Mesopotamia (the territory of modern Iraq). One of them is an illustration of the feat of the hero of the Sumerian epos Gilgamesh – his duel with the lion. By the time of the reign of the 5th dynasty of Ancient Egypt (2470–2320 BC), there were images on the walls of the tomb of Fiohhoten in Saqqara, which depicted six pairs of wrestlers. MIDDLE AGES
In the Middle Ages, wrestling as a sport ceases to exist. There was no place in the Christian world or in Islamic sport. But the struggle has not lost its applied significance. She belonged to the “7 virtues of a knight.” Wrestling fights were also common among peasants and citizens who were forbidden to carry weapons. HISTORY OF SPORTS FIGHT
There are several theories about the origin of wrestling as part of human culture. In some, wrestling is seen as an element of a religious cult (see below the “bear fight” among the ancient Slavs). In ancient Greece and Rome, the struggle was considered primarily a method of general physical education. The peoples of the Far East have adopted a philosophical-idealistic interpretation of the struggle: the struggle of yin and yang, light and darkness, good and evil, etc. Continue reading
