They were introduced about two hundred years ago. The currently accepted division into weight categories among amateurs and professionals diverges somewhat. Lovers have 12 categories, professionals have 17 (before there were even more: 18). PASSIVE WRESTLING
In order to stimulate the active actions of wrestlers, a rule was introduced at the time according to which athletes were punished with penalty points for passive wrestling. Currently, this rule has been canceled, the referee only makes verbal remarks and issues a warning to the “passive” wrestler. However, the more active of the rivals has certain advantages. So, for example, he is allowed to conduct an attacking action from the “standard position”: at the command of the referee, the athlete tries to conduct an attack against the opponent put on the ground for 30 seconds.
